Brian O'Conner

The undercover cop who became Dom's brother

Brian O'Conner is a Los Angeles cop working undercover in the street racing scene. His job is to find out who is hijacking cargo trucks, and the trail leads to Dominic Toretto and his crew. To get close, Brian has to earn Dom's trust, and along the way he falls for Mia, Dom's sister.

The ten-second car

Brian rolls into Echo Park in a Mitsubishi Eclipse and loses a race to Dom, ending up owing him a ten-second car. While restoring a beat-up Toyota Supra at Dom's garage, he digs into Johnny Tran and gets close to Mia. His bosses, Sergeant Tanner and FBI agent Bilkins, give him 36 hours to find the truck hijackers.

At Race Wars, Brian realizes Dom's crew is behind the heists and tells Mia the truth. The next job ends with Vince shot, and Brian reveals he is a cop to call for help. When Tran kills Jesse, Brian chases the killer down and shoots him. At the end he races Dom across the railroad tracks. With Dom hurt and sirens closing in, he hands him the keys to the Supra. Now Brian is the one who has to run.

Miami

Brian crosses the country winning street races, as the short The Turbo Charged Prelude shows, and lands in Miami in a Nissan Skyline. After one race he is arrested. Bilkins and agent Markham offer a deal: go undercover inside drug lord Carter Verone's operation and his record is wiped clean. Brian picks as his partner Roman Pearce, a childhood friend he had fallen out with.

Customs agent Monica Fuentes, already undercover with Verone, helps them. With Tej's help, Brian and Roman swap their bugged cars for a Yenko Camaro and a Challenger, shake off the police and launch the Camaro off a ramp onto Verone's yacht. Verone is arrested, their records are cleared and the two stay in Miami with a cut of the money.

Back with the FBI

Reinstated as an FBI agent, Brian is after the drug lord Arturo Braga. His case crosses paths with Dom, who is back to avenge Letty. Both enter the same race that recruits drivers for Braga, and Dom wins by bumping Brian's car.

Brian tells Dom that Letty had been working for him undercover, trying to clear Dom's record. Together they figure out that Campos is the real Braga, grab him in Mexico and drive back through the border tunnels. Fenix rams Brian's car, and Dom finishes him. Brian asks for leniency for Dom, but the judge gives him 25 years. Brian quits the FBI and, with Mia, Leo and Santos, stops the prison bus.

With the police station vault dragged through the streets and the whole city on their tail, Brian kills Zizi, the thug who started the mess. Hobbs gives them a 24-hour head start. The money is split, and Brian and Mia disappear around the world with Dom.

The London job

Brian and Mia are living with their son, Jack. When Hobbs asks for help against Owen Shaw, Brian signs on. To get information on Letty, he turns himself in and goes back to Los Angeles as a prisoner to question Braga, who reveals that Shaw helped him build his cartel.

In Europe, Shaw's men kidnap Mia. On the runway, Brian gets aboard the moving cargo plane and saves Mia. With the pardons secured, the family goes home to Los Angeles.

The goodbye

Brian is still getting used to life as a dad when Deckard Shaw blows up Dom's house. He joins one more mission: the airdrop over the Caucasus, the rescue of Ramsey, Abu Dhabi and the battle in Los Angeles against Jakande. Mia is pregnant again.

At the end, Brian plays with Jack and Mia on the beach while the crew watches from a distance. He has decided to stop. Dom drives off without saying goodbye, but Brian catches up at an intersection. They drive side by side until the roads split. Paul Walker died in a car crash in 2013, in the middle of filming. His brothers Caleb and Cody stood in for him, with his face added digitally, and the series chose to retire Brian rather than kill him off or recast.
