Quick recap

Another 12 standalone stories, mixing web comics printed for the first time with new material. In Tim Sale and Jim Krueger's Farewell Performance, a psychology student becomes obsessed with Bixby, an escape artist chased by Agents, and ends up getting the message "The Matrix has you." In Paul Chadwick's Déjà Vu, a woman senses glitches in the Matrix, gains money and fame from it, then gets swallowed by lawsuits, a pregnancy and everyday trouble without ever reaching the truth. There's also a prose story by Poppy Z. Brite and pieces by Bill Sienkiewicz and Peter Bagge. The book closes with Kaare Andrews's I Kant, made just for this edition, where the Kid struggles with his own doubt.

  2. Behind the scenesThe recalled comic

A printed preview was handed out in theaters in 1999, but Warner recalled it over its mature content. Paul Chadwick's Déjà Vu was in it, and it appears here in color for the first time.

  3. ReferenceThe film's déjà vu

In Déjà Vu, a woman senses glitches in the Matrix before anyone else. It's the same idea as the film, where déjà vu means the machines changed something.

  4. Reference"The Matrix has you"

Farewell Performance, by Tim Sale and Jim Krueger, ends with the message "The Matrix has you," the same line that appears on Neo's screen early in the first film.

Kaare Andrews's I Kant was made just for this book and never ran online. It stars the Kid from The Animatrix's Kid's Story, and Morpheus shows up in the opening.
