Quick recap

The crew rescues the colleagues taken by the Gorn and escapes by forcing the Gorn world into hibernation. Captain Batel, though, comes back infected with Gorn DNA, and her condition worsens all season. Between missions, the show returns to themed episodes: a holodeck mystery, a comedy with Trelane and an adventure in the past. Chapel comes back with Dr. Korby as her partner, Spock grows close to La'An, and Scotty becomes a regular in engineering. Kirk shows up more, now a friend of the crew. In the finale, an ancient threat, the Vezda, escapes its prison and possesses people. Batel uses her hybrid biology to lock them back up and becomes the prison's guardian, leaving Pike behind.

    "A Space Adventure Hour", a holodeck murder mystery styled like 1960s sci-fi TV, was directed by Jonathan Frakes. He called it the best TV episode he has directed.

  2. CameoTrelane and a familiar voice

    In "Wedding Bell Blues", the reality-bending being is played by Rhys Darby, and his father is voiced by John de Lancie. The producers confirmed off screen that they're Trelane, from "The Squire of Gothos", and Q himself.
