Wonder Woman (Diana Prince)

The Amazon princess of Themyscira who chose to live among humans

Diana is the princess of the Amazons, daughter of Queen Hippolyta, raised on the hidden island of Themyscira, far from the world of men. Trained for war since childhood, she eventually leaves the island and lives among humans under the name Diana Prince. Gal Gadot has played her since Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016).

Wonder Woman

Daughter of Themyscira

Diana is the only child on Themyscira, the Amazons' island hidden from the world. Her mother, Hippolyta, tells her she sculpted her from clay and Zeus gave her life. She also tells her that Ares, god of war, corrupted mankind, and that Zeus left the Amazons a weapon able to kill a god in case he returned. Hippolyta doesn't want her daughter training, but her aunt, General Antiope, trains her in secret and later in the open.

In 1918, a plane crashes into the sea near the island. Diana saves American pilot Steve Trevor, and German soldiers follow right behind him. The Amazons win the beach battle, but Antiope dies protecting Diana. Bound by the Lasso of Hestia, Steve explains that the world is in a war that has already killed millions. Diana is sure Ares is behind it. She takes the sword, the lasso and the armor and leaves with Steve, knowing she may never come back.

No Man's Land

In London, Diana finds a world of corsets and generals who'd rather not fight. Steve puts together his own crew: the spy Sameer, the marksman Charlie and the smuggler Chief. On the Belgian front, told the troops have been stuck facing No Man's Land for almost a year, Diana climbs out of the trench and advances alone under German fire, opening the way for the troops and freeing the village of Veld. She and Steve grow close.

Diana kills General Ludendorff, convinced he's Ares, but the war goes on. The real Ares is Sir Patrick Morgan, a British politician who pretended to seek peace. The sword crumbles against him, and Diana learns the truth: she's Zeus's daughter, and the god-killing weapon is herself. Steve hijacks the plane carrying Doctor Poison's gas and blows it up in the sky, dying with it. Ares tries to make her kill the chemist. Remembering Steve, Diana spares her and destroys Ares with his own lightning. The war ends, and she stays in the world of men.

1984

Sixty-six years later, Diana works at the Smithsonian in Washington and saves people while staying out of the photos. She's still alone. When the FBI brings the Dreamstone, a wish-granting rock, to the museum, Diana unknowingly wishes Steve back. He returns in another man's body. Her colleague Barbara Minerva wishes to be like Diana, and businessman Max Lord wishes to become the stone itself.

With Steve, Diana learns the stone was made by a god of lies and that every wish exacts a price. Hers is her strength: her powers are fading. Max spreads wishes around the globe and pushes the world to the brink of nuclear war. Steve convinces her to renounce him, and she lets him go. Her powers return and, remembering what Steve said about the wind, she learns to fly. In the golden armor of the legendary warrior Asteria, Diana defeats Barbara, now transformed into the Cheetah. Then, with the lasso tied into Max's broadcast, she speaks to the whole world and convinces everyone to give up their wishes.

The woman in the photo

In the present, Diana moves through billionaires' parties chasing an old photo. At Lex Luthor's party in Metropolis, she steals the drive holding Lex's files that Bruce Wayne was trying to copy. Bruce finds that same 1918 photo, showing Diana with four men, and sends it to her. In Lex's files, Diana finds records of other metahumans.

She's already on a plane out of the country when she sees on TV the creature Lex has unleashed in Gotham. Diana turns back, joins the fight with armor, sword and lasso, and holds the creature alongside Batman and Superman. Superman dies. At the funeral, Bruce asks her to help find the others, and she agrees.

The League

Steppenwolf invades Themyscira and takes the Mother Box the Amazons were guarding. Hippolyta sends a warning to her daughter. Diana tells Bruce about the first invasion, millennia ago, when gods, Amazons, Atlanteans and humans joined forces to drive back the armies of Apokolips. Earlier, she had stopped an armed group from blowing up a city block in London.

Diana reaches out to Victor, helps build the team and backs the plan to revive Superman. In the final battle in Russia, the League corners Steppenwolf. In Zack Snyder's cut, Diana lands the final blow: she beheads him and throws the head through the portal, in front of Darkseid. Afterward, she helps Bruce plan a headquarters for the team.
