Han Lue

The laid-back driver who never stops snacking

Han Lue is the calmest member of Dom's crew: he talks little, drives beautifully and always has a snack in his hand. When Dom puts together a crew to hijack fuel tankers in the Dominican Republic, Han is one of the first people he calls.

Fast & Furious (2009)

Dominican Republic

Han is part of the crew Dom assembles in the Dominican Republic, with Letty, Leo and Santos. The short Los Bandoleros shows them breaking Leo out of jail and planning the job. Fast & Furious opens with a fuel tanker heist on a mountain road. With the police getting close, Dom breaks up the crew and everyone goes their own way.

Rio and Gisele

Dom calls Han in for the job against Hernan Reyes in Rio de Janeiro. Also on the crew is Gisele Yashar, a former contact in Braga's cartel. The Tokyo mentor

In Tokyo, Han is business partner to Takashi, the Drift King and nephew of a Yakuza boss. When American teen Sean Boswell wrecks the Nissan Silvia Han lent him for a race, Han puts him to work and becomes his mentor, teaching him to drift for real.

Han had been skimming money from Takashi's business. When Takashi's uncle finds out, Takashi and Morimoto go after Han, Sean and Neela. In the chase through the streets, Han's Mazda RX-7 is T-boned by a Mercedes and explodes. Sean wins the final race down the mountain. In the last scene, a man pulls up in a Plymouth to race him and says Han was family: Dom Toretto.

Looking after Elle

Han didn't die. Mr. Nobody had recruited him to protect Elle, a girl whose DNA is the key to Project Aries, a program that can hack any weapons system in the world. To take them both off the board, the death in Tokyo was staged with Mr. Nobody's help.

Letty and Mia find him in Tokyo looking after Elle. Han rejoins the family, helps take on Jakob and Otto and sits at the table for the final cookout. In the post-credits scene, Deckard Shaw, the man in the Mercedes, opens a door and comes face to face with him.

Dante's bill

In Rome, Han goes with Tej and Ramsey into the truck that is supposed to hold a chip and finds one of Dante's bombs instead. After the blast, the Agency hunts the whole crew. Han, Roman, Tej and Ramsey head to London and cross paths with Deckard Shaw again.

At the end, the four are aboard a plane that Aimes, head of the Agency and Dante's ally, has shot down. The film ends without saying whether they survived.

Off screen

In comics and books

Han predates the series: he first appeared in Justin Lin's Better Luck Tomorrow (2002), also played by Sung Kang. When Lin took on Tokyo Drift, he brought the character along, and the constant snacking is a nod to that film. The series timeline is out of order: Fast & Furious, Fast Five and Fast & Furious 6 all take place before Tokyo Drift.
