Harry Potter grows up mistreated by his aunt and uncle until, at 11, he learns he's a wizard and famous: as a baby he survived the attack by Voldemort that killed his parents. At Hogwarts he's sorted into Gryffindor, befriends Ron and Hermione and picks up a rival, Draco Malfoy. The trio suspects someone is after the Sorcerer's Stone hidden in the castle, and they blame Snape. Getting past the defenses around the Stone, Harry finds the real villain is Professor Quirrell, who carries Voldemort on the back of his head. The Mirror of Erised gives Harry the Stone, and his touch burns Quirrell. Dumbledore says the Stone will be destroyed and that his mother's love protects Harry. Gryffindor wins the House Cup. Left open: Voldemort got away.
