Sara Lance (White Canary)

Sara survived the shipwreck. She spent years in dangerous hands until the League of Assassins took her in; there she became Ta-er al-Sahfer, the Canary, and fell in love with Ra's's daughter, Nyssa al Ghul.

Back in Starling City, she works as a masked vigilante, joins Oliver, reunites with her father and tries to rebuild things with Laurel. When the war with Slade is over, Sara returns to the League with Nyssa and leaves her leather jacket with her sister.

Early in Arrow's third season, Sara is hit by three arrows and falls from a rooftop. Laurel takes up the Black Canary mantle. It later comes out that Malcolm Merlyn drugged Thea into committing the murder.

Laurel can't accept the loss. With Thea and Malcolm, she takes her sister's body to the Lazarus Pit in Nanda Parbat. Sara comes back to life, but soulless and driven by bloodlust. John Constantine finds her soul and restores it. Still fighting the urge to kill, Sara decides to leave and find herself.

Rip Hunter recruits Sara for the Waverider crew, chasing Vandal Savage through time. She takes the name White Canary and keeps her bloodlust in check while crossing eras alongside heroes and villains.

Sara grows close to Leonard Snart, Captain Cold, who slowly changes sides. Snart sacrifices himself to destroy the Oculus, and the team learns the Time Masters were protecting Savage. In the end, Savage is killed in three eras at once, and Sara decides to stay with the team.

Rip disappears, and Sara takes command of the Waverider. She learns Laurel was killed by Damien Darhk, now part of the Legion of Doom alongside Eobard Thawne and Malcolm Merlyn. The pull of revenge weighs on every decision.

The team races the Legion for the Spear of Destiny, which can rewrite reality. The Legion wins and remakes the world, but Sara leads the comeback. To fix everything, the Legends cross paths with their own past selves and end up breaking time.

Fixing anachronisms, Sara works both against and alongside the Time Bureau, and falls for agent Ava Sharpe. The demon Mallus tries to use Sara as a vessel, and she fights him off. Then come the magical creatures and the demon Neron.

In the Crisis, Sara is chosen as the Paragon of Destiny and tries to bring Oliver back with the Lazarus Pit. She helps recreate the universe. Next she takes on the three Fates, destroys the Loom of Fate and, in the season's final scene, is abducted by aliens.

The abduction happens just before Sara was going to propose to Ava. She learns the culprit is Bishop, a scientist from the future who makes clones of Ava. Sara dies and comes back in a clone body with alien DNA that can regenerate. Back with the team, she and Ava move up the wedding, but a second Waverider destroys their ship and strands everyone in 1925.

Without technology, the Legends meet inventor Gwyn Davies and face an evil version of Gideon. Sara finds out she's pregnant. In the last episode, she and the team are arrested by the Time Police.

Sara Lance doesn't exist in the comics. She was created for Arrow by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Andrew Kreisberg, drawing on the comics' Black Canary. In the pilot she was played by Jacqueline MacInnes Wood; from season two on, Caity Lotz took over and carried the role into Legends of Tomorrow.
