Quick recap

In 2233, the Romulan ship Narada, under Captain Nero, comes out of an anomaly from the future and attacks the USS Kelvin. George Kirk sacrifices himself to save the crew, and at that very moment his son James is born. Years later, a reckless Kirk joins Starfleet on Captain Pike's dare and clashes with young Spock at the Academy. When Vulcan calls for help, the Enterprise goes too, and Nero uses red matter to create a black hole and destroy the planet. Spock maroons Kirk on an icy planet, where he meets the older Spock, who came from the future chasing Nero, and engineer Scotty. Kirk gets back aboard, he and Spock defeat Nero together, and Kirk is given command of the Enterprise.
