Quick recap

Ash delivers the GS Ball to Kurt in Johto and sets off for a new league with Misty and Brock, while Tracey stays with Professor Oak. Gary is in the region too, and the rivalry goes on. Ash picks up all three Johto starters along the way, Chikorita, Cyndaquil and Totodile, plus Heracross and an odd-colored Noctowl. He wins the region's first two badges. Charizard finds the Charicific Valley, full of wild Charizard, and Ash leaves it there to train in a tough goodbye. Team Rocket stays on their tail. The season ends with the trio still early in the journey, heading for Johto's bigger cities.

  1. Behind the scenesThe GS Ball mystery

    Ash hands the GS Ball to Kurt in Azalea Town, and the story stops there. It was originally meant to hold Celebi, but the plan was shelved once Celebi became the star of the fourth movie.

    Just like Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle in Kanto, Ash collects all three Johto starters this season: Chikorita, Cyndaquil and Totodile.

    The Noctowl Ash catches is a shiny, with different colors from a normal one. It's the first rare-colored Pokémon on his team.
