Quick recap

Reverend William Stryker, a TV preacher and former soldier, launches a crusade against mutants, whom he calls abominations. His men kidnap Professor X, Cyclops and Storm, and Stryker plans to use Xavier's mind to kill mutants around the world. With no other option, the remaining X-Men team up with Magneto to rescue their mentor. It all comes to a head at a huge Stryker rally in Madison Square Garden, where the X-Men try to show the crowd who he really is. Stryker falls in front of everyone, but the ending makes clear the hatred he stirred up won't go away soon.

Trivia

  1. ReferenceThe backbone of X2

Writer Zak Penn built the outline of X2 on this graphic novel, feeling it was a better base than the Dark Phoenix saga. William Stryker comes from here, though the film makes him a soldier rather than a preacher.
