The first half of New Moon. On Bella's 18th birthday, a paper cut nearly makes Jasper attack her, and Edward decides to leave Forks with his family. Bella sinks into a long depression until she finds that when she takes risks, she hears his voice. She grows close to Jacob Black, who helps her fix up two old motorcycles, and they become close friends. But Jacob starts to change and pulls away. Alone in the meadow, Bella runs into Laurent, who wants to kill her. The volume ends when giant wolves appear and chase him off.
