Quick recap

In the 2270s, a massive energy cloud wipes out three Klingon ships and heads straight for Earth. Now an admiral, Kirk retakes command of the freshly refitted Enterprise, which angers Captain Willard Decker, bumped down to first officer. Spock rejoins the ship because he senses a consciousness inside the cloud. A probe kills navigator Ilia and replaces her with a robotic copy. At the heart of the cloud is V'Ger, a living machine that grew out of Voyager 6 from NASA, and wants to find its creator. Decker merges with V'Ger and the Ilia copy, and they vanish as a new form of life. Earth is saved, and Kirk takes the Enterprise back out into space.
