Quick recap

In 2369, Commander Benjamin Sisko takes over Deep Space Nine, a Cardassian station near Bajor, a planet just freed from decades of occupation. With him are Bajoran major Kira, shapeshifter Odo, Trill Jadzia Dax, Dr. Bashir, O'Brien and Ferengi Quark. Sisko discovers a stable wormhole to the Gamma Quadrant, home to beings the Bajorans worship as the Prophets, and becomes their Emissary. From the other side comes the Dominion, an empire run by the Founders, Odo's own people. Worf arrives in season four, and the show builds into the Dominion War. In the end, the war is over, Sisko goes to live among the Prophets, Odo returns to his people, and Kira takes command of the station.
