Quick recap

Three years into the five-year mission, a weary Kirk applies for promotion to vice admiral, and Spock considers leaving Starfleet after learning the older Spock has died. At Starbase Yorktown, the Enterprise answers a rescue call inside a nebula. It's an ambush: a swarm of Krall's ships tears the Enterprise apart, and the crew crash-lands on the planet Altamid. Krall wants the Abronath, an artifact Kirk was carrying, to complete a bioweapon. The survivors get help from Jaylah, a scavenger living in the old USS Franklin. Krall is Balthazar Edison, a human captain from before the Federation. Using the Franklin and the Beastie Boys' "Sabotage", they take down the swarm and save Yorktown. Kirk turns down the promotion, and a new Enterprise is being built.
