Thor, son of Odin, is about to become king of Asgard when Frost Giants break into the palace, secretly helped by his brother Loki. Arrogant, Thor attacks Jotunheim with Loki, Sif and the Warriors Three and breaks the truce. Odin strips his powers and exiles him to Earth, along with his hammer Mjölnir, which only the worthy can lift. In New Mexico, Thor meets scientist Jane Foster and Erik Selvig. S.H.I.E.L.D., with Coulson, surrounds the hammer, and Thor can't lift it. Loki learns he is adopted, a Frost Giant by birth, and takes the throne while Odin sleeps. He sends the Destroyer after Thor, who sacrifices himself, proves worthy and gets his powers back. Thor destroys the Bifrost to save Jotunheim. Loki falls into the abyss.
