Quick recap

The Fellowship is broken. Frodo and Sam capture Gollum and force him to guide them to Mordor through the Dead Marshes. The Black Gate is shut, and Gollum suggests another way. Faramir, Boromir's brother, captures the hobbits and takes them to Osgiliath, then lets them go. Merry and Pippin escape the Uruk-hai and meet Treebeard, the Ent. Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli find Gandalf, who returns as the White and frees King Théoden from Saruman and Wormtongue. The people of Rohan retreat to Helm's Deep and, with help from Haldir's Elves, hold out until Gandalf arrives with Éomer at dawn. The Ents destroy Isengard. Gollum decides to lead the hobbits to "her."
