Quick recap

After the rebels take District 2, Katniss heads to the booby-trapped Capitol with Boggs, Gale, Finnick and an unstable Peeta. Boggs dies, and Katniss decides to hunt Snow on her own. In the sewers, mutts kill Finnick. Outside Snow's mansion, parachutes explode over Capitol children and rebel medics, and Prim is killed. In custody, Snow tells Katniss the order came from Coin. Coin, now in charge of Panem, proposes one last Games with Capitol children. At Snow's execution, Katniss shoots Coin instead, and Snow dies at the hands of the crowd. Katniss is pardoned and returns to District 12. Peeta comes back too. Years later they have children, and she's still living with the nightmares.

  1. Behind the scenesPlutarch's letter

After Philip Seymour Hoffman's death, the scene where Plutarch visits Katniss in detention was rewritten. Instead, Haymitch reads her a letter from Plutarch. The filmmakers chose not to recreate the actor digitally.

  2. ReferenceThe Capitol on the Brazil set

Part of the Capitol was shot at the Espaces d'Abraxas complex in Noisy-le-Grand, near Paris. It's the same place where Terry Gilliam filmed Brazil (1985), another dystopia about an oppressive state.

The District 2 scenes were shot at Berlin's old Tempelhof Airport. The huge terminal was built in the Nazi era.

Both parts of Mockingjay were shot back to back, from September 2013 to June 2014, across the US, France and Germany.

  5. ReferenceThe lullaby in the credits

The credits music blends "There Are Worse Games to Play" with "Deep in the Meadow," the lullaby Katniss sang to Rue in the first film. It closes the saga where it first started to hurt.
