Two years later, Paul leads the Fremen in a guerrilla war against the Harkonnens, and Alia is already a strange, wise child. The Baron grooms his nephew Feyd-Rautha to rule. Gurney Halleck resurfaces among smugglers and returns to Paul's side. Paul drinks the Water of Life and awakens as the Kwisatz Haderach. When the Emperor comes to Arrakis, the Fremen attack riding sandworms. Alia kills the Baron, Paul defeats Feyd-Rautha in a duel and threatens to destroy the spice. The Emperor surrenders, and Paul takes the throne by claiming Princess Irulan's hand, with Chani at his side.
