The final prelude opens with Emperor Shaddam IV deep in political maneuvering to secure his power with synthetic spice. Clashes between House Harkonnen and the Fremen heat up on Arrakis. The Bene Gesserit scheme for their breeding program to finally produce the Kwisatz Haderach. Meanwhile, the Emperor watches his rivals' every move, unsure whom to trust. The volume sets up the final board of the prelude trilogy and ends with every faction, from the throne to the desert, on a collision course.
