Quick recap

The schemes come to a head. On Caladan, Kailea, tired of waiting for marriage, plots against Leto; the attack kills their son, Victor, and she takes her own life. In his grief, Leto grows close to Jessica, and the two fall in love. Among the Harkonnens, Rabban murders his own father, Abulurd, earning the nickname the Beast. Gurney Halleck escapes Harkonnen slavery and swears loyalty to the Atreides. On Arrakis, Liet Kynes carries on his father's work among the Fremen. The volume closes the series with several lives shattered and the way open to the final prelude.
