Quick recap

After the death of his father, T'Chaka, T'Challa returns to Wakanda, an African nation hiding its vibranium wealth from the world, to be crowned. He beats M'Baku in ritual combat. With General Okoye, his ex Nakia and his genius sister Shuri, he goes to South Korea after Ulysses Klaue. Erik Stevens, aka Killmonger, kills Klaue and shows up in Wakanda with the body. He is the son of N'Jobu, T'Challa's uncle, killed by T'Chaka in 1992. Erik challenges T'Challa, wins and throws him off a waterfall. On the throne, he plans to arm the oppressed worldwide with vibranium. The Jabari save T'Challa, who returns and defeats Killmonger. Erik chooses to die free. T'Challa decides to open Wakanda up and announces it at the UN.

Hidden details

  1. Behind the scenesXhosa started as an improv

Wakanda's language is isiXhosa, a real language from South Africa. The idea came up on the Civil War set, when John Kani (T'Chaka) asked why a Wakandan father and son would speak English and switched languages mid-scene. Chadwick Boseman answered in Xhosa, and the movie adopted it.

  2. ReferenceOakland, 1992

The prologue takes place in Oakland, California. It's director Ryan Coogler's hometown and the birthplace of the Black Panther Party, founded there in 1966.

  3. Reference"What are those?" in the lab

When Shuri looks at T'Challa's sandals and yells "What are those?", she's imitating a 2015 meme that went viral. The joke shows the princess is a plugged-in teenager.

  4. CameoStan Lee takes the chips

At the casino in Busan, T'Challa leaves his chips on the table to go after Klaue. An elderly gambler takes them: it's Stan Lee.

  5. SetupAnother broken white boy

Shuri calls Everett Ross "another broken white boy" to fix. The other one is Bucky, frozen in Wakanda since Civil War, who wakes up in the post-credits scene and gets the nickname White Wolf. In the comics, that title belonged to T'Challa's adopted brother.
