Quick recap

A year after the War of Assassins, Duke Leto backs an assault on Ix to return the planet to House Vernius and his friend Rhombur, while his concubine, Jessica, is pregnant. Emperor Shaddam IV launches the Great Spice War to make the universe dependent on his synthetic spice, ajidamal. The Harkonnens raid Fremen villages, and the Bene Gesserit wait for Jessica to bear the daughter meant to lead to the Kwisatz Haderach. Shaddam's plans fall apart, and Ix returns to the Vernius. In the end, Jessica defies the Bene Gesserit and has a boy, Paul, upending everything the sisterhood planned and setting the stage for Dune.
