Rey

Rey gets by on Jakku trading parts for food portions with the junk dealer Unkar Plutt. She marks the days she's been waiting for her family on the wall. When she saves BB-8 and crosses paths with Finn, a deserting stormtrooper, the two steal an old ship, which happens to be the Millennium Falcon.

Han Solo and Chewbacca find them and take them to Maz Kanata's castle. There, Rey touches Luke's old saber and has a jumbled vision of past and future. Maz tells her that whoever she's waiting for on Jakku isn't coming back and that the belonging she seeks may be ahead, not behind.

Rey refuses to take the saber and runs into the forest, where she ends up captured by Kylo Ren.

Held on Starkiller Base, Rey resists Kylo's mind probe and gets inside his head. She figures out the Jedi mind trick on her own and talks a stormtrooper into letting her go. She watches Han die on the bridge and, in the forest, calls the saber to her own hand and beats Kylo in the duel. With the map complete, she heads to Ahch-To and finds Luke Skywalker.

Luke rejects the saber and refuses to train her, until he gives in and teaches her a few lessons. At the same time, a Force connection starts putting Rey and Kylo face to face, each in a different corner of the galaxy. She goes down into a dark cave looking for answers about her parents and only sees her own reflection.

Convinced she can bring Ben back, Rey turns herself over to the First Order. In the throne room, Kylo kills Snoke and the two fight side by side. Then he tells her that her parents were nobody, that they sold her for drinking money, and invites her to rule with him. Rey refuses. On Crait, she lifts the rocks blocking the exit with the Force and frees the Resistance survivors.

Without anyone noticing, Rey takes the ancient Jedi texts from the island, and they show up tucked in a drawer on the Falcon at the end. She leaves the movie without knowing the truth about her family, but determined to define who she is on her own.

With Palpatine back, Rey trains with Leia and sets out with her friends after a Sith wayfinder that leads to Exegol. On Pasaana, the group finds the abandoned ship of Ochi of Bestoon, a hunter tied to her past, and a dagger with an inscription pointing the way to the wayfinder. There Rey has the feeling she's been on that ship before, and a childhood memory surfaces: her parents leaving while she stayed behind on Jakku.

Escaping Pasaana, she unleashes Force lightning by accident, and her power starts to scare her. Kylo then reveals the truth: she's Palpatine's granddaughter. Her parents hid her on Jakku to protect her from her grandfather and died for it.

On Kef Bir, Rey runs Kylo through with her saber during their duel, but immediately uses the Force to heal him. Ashamed, she flees to Ahch-To. Luke's spirit stops her from giving up, hands her Leia's saber and gives her back the X-wing for the trip.

On Exegol, Palpatine wants his granddaughter to kill him so he can take over her body. Rey hears the voices of past Jedi, raises the two Skywalker sabers and turns the Emperor's lightning back on him until he's destroyed. The effort kills her, and Ben Solo uses his own life to bring her back.

At the end, Rey goes to Tatooine, buries Luke's and Leia's sabers at the old Lars farm and ignites a yellow saber she built herself. When a local asks her name, she answers Rey Skywalker, while the spirits of Luke and Leia look on.
