Boba Fett

The clone who became the most feared bounty hunter in the galaxy

Boba is an unaltered clone of bounty hunter Jango Fett, raised as his son on Kamino. He first appears as a boy at his father's side, when the Jedi discover the clone army.

Episode II – Attack of the Clones

Son of the template

Jango Fett served as the genetic template for the clone army on Kamino. As part of his payment, he asked for an unmodified copy to raise as his son. That boy is Boba.

When Obi-Wan Kenobi arrives on Kamino, father and son flee in Slave I. Boba cheers at his father's side during the chase through the Geonosis asteroid field. Soon after, in the arena, he watches Mace Windu behead Jango. The boy's last scene is him alone, holding his father's helmet.

Revenge, badly planned

Still a teenager, Boba slips in among clone cadets and boards Mace Windu's cruiser with a hidden bomb. The plan to kill the Jedi fails, but the ship goes down. With Aurra Sing and Bossk, he takes hostages to lure Mace.

In the end, Ahsoka Tano and Plo Koon break up the operation. Boba goes to prison, still swearing revenge on Windu.

A real hunter

Out of prison, Boba is now part of a bounty hunter crew. On a job where the crew recruits Asajj Ventress, he comes across colder and more professional, far from the impulsive kid who wanted revenge at any cost.

Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back

The man who delivered Han Solo

Years later, Darth Vader gathers bounty hunters to find the Millennium Falcon and warns Boba: no disintegrations. Boba is the one who tracks the ship to Cloud City. There, Vader freezes Han Solo in carbonite, and Boba takes the block to Jabba the Hutt, who had a price on the smuggler's head.

The Sarlacc

Boba is at Jabba's palace when Luke Skywalker shows up to rescue Han. Jabba takes everyone to the Sarlacc pit for an execution that turns into a battle. Han, still half-blind from hibernation, accidentally hits Boba's jetpack, which fires and slams the bounty hunter into the side of a sail barge. He falls into the Sarlacc's mouth. For decades, that was the character's known ending.

Out of the belly

Boba survives. He cuts his way out of the Sarlacc and crawls onto the sand, where Jawas steal his armor. A Tusken tribe captures him and keeps him prisoner until he saves one of the tribe's children. Little by little, he earns their respect, learns to fight with the gaffi stick, and helps the tribe raid a Pyke spice train. He is accepted as one of them.

Coming back from a mission, he finds the tribe massacred. Later, he rescues the assassin Fennec Shand, left for dead in the desert, and takes her to a mod artist who saves her with cybernetic implants. The two become partners, and Boba gets Slave I back at Jabba's palace.

The armor back

Boba shows up from a distance in the first episode of The Mandalorian season two, watching Din Djarin take his old armor. On Tython, he asks for it back. In exchange, he and Fennec defend Grogu. Even though he can't stop the little one from being taken, Boba suits up, takes down an entire squad, and destroys the Imperial ships with Slave I.

Later, he helps Din rescue Grogu. In the final episode's post-credits scene, he walks into Jabba's old palace with Fennec, kills Bib Fortuna, and takes the throne.

Daimyo of Mos Espa

Boba tries to rule differently from Jabba, with respect instead of fear. He survives an assassination attempt early on, gets a threatening visit from Jabba's twin cousins, and finds out the mayor of Mos Espa is in league with the Pykes, who want control of the spice trade.

War with the Pykes

Fennec brings in Din Djarin to back Boba up. The Pykes hire Cad Bane, who shoots Marshal Cobb Vanth, and then blow up the Sanctuary in Mos Espa. In the final battle, Bane reveals to Boba that the Pykes were the ones who massacred the Tusken tribe. The other crime families betray the daimyo.

Boba rides his rancor against the Pykes' droids, faces Cad Bane, and kills his old rival with the gaffi stick, the weapon he learned from the Tusken. Fennec wipes out the Pyke leadership, and Boba keeps Mos Espa.

In comics and books

In Marvel's comics, War of the Bounty Hunters (2021) shows what happened between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi: Boba loses the carbonite block holding Han Solo on the way to Jabba and has to get it back while half the galaxy's underworld fights over the prize.
