Lois is diagnosed with breast cancer and starts chemo, while Clark tries to shield the family from everything. Jordan wants to be a hero before he's ready. The villain is Bruno Mannheim, head of Intergang, with his wife, Peia, who has powers and is also ill. Lex Luthor gets out of prison bent on revenge against Lois, who put him there. Lois finishes treatment and recovers. In the home stretch, Lex kills Bizarro over and over with Kryptonite, and each time he comes back stronger, until he becomes the monster Doomsday. In the final scene, Superman and Doomsday fight on the Moon and the screen cuts to black without showing who wins.
