In the near future, mutants are feared and Senator Robert Kelly wants to force them to register. Logan, aka Wolverine, a mutant with claws and a healing factor who can't remember his past, meets young Rogue, who absorbs the energy of anyone she touches. Both end up at Professor Charles Xavier's school, where Cyclops, Jean Grey and Storm make up the X-Men. Magneto, Xavier's old friend, kidnaps Rogue to power a machine that would turn the world leaders gathered at Ellis Island into mutants. The X-Men stop him atop the Statue of Liberty, save Rogue, and Magneto ends up in a plastic prison. In the end, Mystique poses as Kelly and Logan heads north to look for clues about his past.
