Quick recap
Ten thousand years before Paul Atreides, the Sisterhood that will become the Bene Gesserit is led by Mother Superior Valya Harkonnen, helped by her sister Tula. Valya works the court of Emperor Javicco Corrino and arranges Princess Ynez's marriage. The plan falls apart with Desmond Hart, a soldier who claims he survived a sandworm on Arrakis and can resist the Sisterhood's powers. Hart kills Ynez's betrothed and the Truthsayer Kasha and wins the Emperor's trust. Flashbacks reveal Valya's revenge against the Atreides and Tula's secret: Desmond is her son. His blue eyes hide thinking-machine technology. In the end, Javicco dies, Tula is arrested, and Valya escapes to Arrakis with Ynez and Keiran Atreides.

Hidden details
ReferenceTiran-Arafel, a warning millennia early
On her deathbed, Mother Superior Raquella speaks of "Tiran-Arafel," holy judgment brought by a tyrant. "Arafel" comes from God Emperor of Dune, Frank Herbert's fourth novel. Her vision reaches thousands of years ahead.
The show draws on the Great Schools of Dune trilogy by Brian Herbert, Frank's son, and Kevin J. Anderson. It takes place about 10,000 years before Paul Atreides.
Behind the scenesVilleneuve was set to direct the pilot
In 2019, Denis Villeneuve was attached to direct the first episode before stepping away to focus on the films. Johan Renck took over and left in 2023 too. The pilot ended up with Anna Foerster.
For most of production, the show was called Dune: The Sisterhood. The Dune: Prophecy title wasn't announced until November 2023, a year before the premiere.
By the season's end, Valya heads to Arrakis determined to protect the Sisterhood's breeding program at any cost. Remember that plan: it comes back later in the franchise.
